Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng

Dr Oti-Boateng is the Director of Science, Policy and Capacity building at UNESCO in Paris-France. She has previously served as the Senior Programme Specialist for Science and Technology at the multisectoral regional office of UNESCO in Harare, Zimbabwe. She was also the focal point for the African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology and the head of the Sciences sector for the Southern African Development Community.

Dr. Oti-Boateng is the immediate former chair of the BioInnovate Africa Programme Advisory Committee (PAC). She has over 32 years working experience in teaching, research, and development of technologies for sustainable development and STI policy.  At UNESCO, she provides technical assistance and support to the African Union Commission, regional economic blocks, member states and universities in the promotion of science technology and innovation (STI) policies and access to knowledge; mobilization of broad-base participation in STI; and human resource and research capacity building in basic and engineering sciences and renewable energy, with a passion for promotion of gender in science and engineering. She also works in collaboration with Education, Culture and Communication and Information sectors of UNESCO. Until 2011, Dr Oti-Boateng was the Director for the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC), College of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (2004-2011). She has rich experience as a Senior Research Fellow in Biochemistry and supervised several postgraduate student research in Food Technology, Engineering and Business Administration with a focus on strategies for Technology Commercialisation.  She was an international juror for UNESCO-Daimler Mondialogo Engineering Award, and a member of the International Advisory Group for Conference for Women Engineers and Scientists-ICWES15. Dr Oti-Boateng holds a Ph.D from the University of Adelaide, South Australia, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana.
