Winners of BioInnovate Africa grants announced

Eleven research teams from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania have received grants  totalling US$ 6 million, to enable them turn their innovative ideas and technologies, based on biological sciences, into viable businesses.

The funding has been provided by the Bioresources Innovations Network for Eastern Africa Development (BioInnovate Africa) Programme, a regional initiative currently operational in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, with the generous support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

BioInnovate Africa phase II launched

BioInnovate Africa Programme, one of Africa’s largest regional innovation-driven science initiative, officially marked entry into its second phase with three key highlights: increased funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida); call for a new round of proposals from eastern Africa scientists and innovators, and enhanced steps towards the creation of a bioeconomy strategy for the region.

BioInnovate Africa to hold a Regional Bioeconomy Symposium

On 2 November 2017, the BioInnovate Africa Programme based at icipe, will hold a regional bioeconomy symposium to kick start the implementation of its project activities for the period 2017 – 2021. The symposium is an opportunity for BioInnovate supported innovative project teams – who will be selected through an ongoing competitive call process – to interact with other regional actors and identify areas where synergies can be built along the various value chains. The symposium will be held in Kigali, Rwanda under the theme, “inclusive growth through sustainable bioinnovations”.
