The Bio-Innovate Program is being implemented as a technology and policy platform implemented via a competitive grant scheme (CGS). The Program is hosted and managed by ILRI with day-to-day-management of the Program being undertaken by the Program Management Office (PMO) with support of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The TAC provides an oversight of the program implementation, peer review of the competitive grant scheme, and program monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Moreover, the PMO and the TAC are supported by independent technical review panels for scientific and technical review of the concept notes and full proposals.
Within the eastern Africa region, thematic project consortia leaders (PLs) are responsible for respective thematic area project consortia, hosted at lead institutions in the Bio-Innovate participating countries. The innovation consortia and their thematic project consortia leaders were selected via the competitive grants scheme, for implementation at institutions within the region.
The Bio-Innovate Program is working closely with the AU-NEPAD Agency and eastern Africa Councils/Commissions for Science and Technology from Bio-Innovate participating countries in strengthening regional collaboration in science and technology to enable the continent to adapt the rapid advances and promises of modern biosciences.
