BioInnovate Africa is supporting a project exploring the potential of cassava biowaste for bioplastics. As a resilient crop widely cultivated in East Africa, cassava plays a crucial role in food security and income generation for smallholder farmers. The project aims to convert cassava biowaste into eco-friendly packaging materials, offering a sustainable alternative to synthetic plastics. Such alternative biodegradable plastics could find uses in pest control during grain storage, and contribute to food security, and jobs in an eco-friendly manner. Learn more about the project here.
