BioInnovate Africa Bio Venture hub at icipe provides professional business incubation advise to entrepreneurial scientists who have biologically based ideas and inventions with high prospects for business. The Bio Venture hub promotes entrepreneurial thinking in research and training, serving icipe’s scientific network, with plans to extend it across BioInnovate Africa partnering countries in eastern Africa.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in science or engineering programs have an opportunity to participate in a three-month internship at the hub. During internship, the students learn principles and best practice in bioentrepreneurship. They also gain hands-on experience in organising business-to-business meetings, improve their communication and interpersonal relationship skills as they participate in the activities of the hub. Below, the pioneer student interns at the hub – Shanell and Daida – share their experience.
