Abstract/Description
As Africa continues to strengthen its sustainable and knowledge-driven bioeconomy, there is a growing need to equip scientists with the skills and networks required to translate scientific discoveries into viable business ventures and market-oriented solutions. To contribute to this effort, BioInnovate Africa convened the second Biobased Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (BIEB) from 13 to 24 July 2026 under the theme “Making Ideas Investable.” The 12-day bootcamp brought together 13 early-career scientists from six eastern African countries within the BioInnovate Africa network. Through practical venture-building workshops, customer engagement, field visits and a pitch showcase, participants developed and refined business cases around their biobased innovations, with a focus on market opportunities, commercialisation pathways and investment readiness. This Info Note summarises the structure, activities and outcomes of BIEB 2026. It also highlights recommendation for strengthening future bootcamps, expanding mentorship and industry engagement, and building a stronger pipeline of market-oriented and investment-ready biobased ventures in eastern Africa.
