BioInnovate Africa in collaboration with Biosciences eastern and central Africa – International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub, Inclusive Business Sweden (IBS), and Villgro Africa conducted a five-day bioscience innovation bootcamp at icipe Duduville campus in Nairobi, Kenya on 11-15 October 2021. A total of 15 entrepreneurial scientists, working on innovative biobased ideas in agroecology, food and feed, wastewater treatment, biopharmaceuticals, green chemicals, biotechnology, digital tools and medical diagnostics were selected to participate in the bootcamp. The participants were from Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Cameroon.

The bootcamp empowered the participants with knowledge in the following areas:

          • Packaging innovative ideas and making them commercially viable to increase their chances of attracting investors and getting funded;
          • Understanding investor mindsets and preparing investor pitch decks.

The participants also had the opportunity to connect and network with impact and equity investors, and received positive feedback about their innovative ideas.
