Prof Amelia Kivaisi

Prof Kivaisi is the team leader of BioInnovate Africa supported project on Nitrogen bio-fortified commercial grade organic fertiliser to improve soil management. She is a retired Professor of Applied Microbiology currently teaching part time at the University of Dar-es-Salaam (UDSM), and has an Adjunct Professor position at Nelson Mandela Africa Institution of Science and Technology.

She has a wide scientific research experience focusing on valorisation of organic waste to food, energy and biofertilizer.  Under research training at UDSM, she supervised postgraduate research students and published several scientific publications in referred journals. Prof Kivaisi has been leader of a number of national/regional research projects for over 25 years; Head of several academic and research units at UDSM and  Chief Editor of the Tanzania Journal of  Science.  She also offers advisory services to national committees; scientific mentoring;  provides consultancy services to national and international organizations in matters related to water quality and sanitation; biogas technology, mushroom cultivation and waste management.

She holds a Ph.D in Applied Microbiology from UDSM, a Master of Science in Microbiology from Stockholm University, and a Bachelor of Science (General) from UDSM.
