Rehema is a lecturer at Université Evangelique en Afrique in Bukavu, D.R.Congo. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya, focusing on utilizing local plant-based treatments and nixtamalization to mitigate mycotoxin contamination in staple foods in South Kivu, DRC. Her research aims to address food insecurity by reducing aflatoxins and fumonisins, which are linked to health issues in the community.
In 2014, she received a scholarship from the INTRA Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) program, funded by the European Union, to pursue her master’s degree, during which she researched natural products with potential to combat Tuta absoluta in Morogoro. She is also a 2021 beneficiary of the Mawazo Learning Exchange fellowship.
She holds a master’s degree in Natural Products Technology and Value Chain Addition from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania, and a bachelor’s degree in Crop Science from the Université Evangelique en Afrique.
