Brief description of the full video documentary: ‘Innovation in the development context of eastern Africa’ is a 40-minute illustration on the value of innovation and innovation ecosystem building in transforming societies into modern economies. The documentary highlights BioInnovate Africa’s model of innovation ecosystem building, which emphasizes collaborations among academia, government, and industry actors. It demonstrates how these interactions happen in practice, and the impacts they have created in terms of new products, new businesses that are market tested and beginning to grow as profitable sustainable biologically based enterprises in eastern Africa. The documentary features science and innovation leaders in eastern Africa, as well as academics and innovators, who explain the opportunities that investing in science and innovation brings to the region. The documentary filmed interviews were conducted on site and virtually in late 2021.
