Prof. Måns Nilsson is Head of Branch: Security Policy and Strategic Studies at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI). He supervises four research departments and 70 staff. Prior to joining FOI, he was Executive Director at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), leading all work at the Institute including the headquarters as well as seven centres with around 400 staff on five continents around the world. He also held an academic position as Professor of Practice in environmental strategies and policy. His leadership focuses on global strategy, driving impact through excellence and effective engagement, building culture for innovation and for quality in delivery, trust and accountability, and collaborative work; and ensuring that strategic goals and priorities are in sync with continual growth and raised ambition levels. As a policy scientist, his key interests include security policy, innovation, international institutions, and policy coherence. He has extensive research and policy experience across developed and developing countries and has been a regular advisor to the UN, OECD, and the European Commission.
Måns received his Master of Science in International Economics and Business from University of Lund, Sweden, and his Ph.D. degree in Systems Analysis and Policy Analysis from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.
